Canteen

The Kotara South Public School canteen is operated by the P&C. It is open 5 days a week, providing fruit for Crunch & Sip from 8:35 to 9am and lunch from 11:00am to 12:00pm.  Recess items can be purchased during lunch service.

Our mission is to provide healthy and delicious food options while maintaining relatively low prices.

Mrs Best, our canteen supervisor, offers fresh bakery bread (Bakers Delight or Joslin St Bakery) daily. She sources only the freshest ingredients for the salad bowls, sandwiches, burgers and wraps, which are prepared fresh daily.  Mrs Best is happy to discuss any food allergies your child has so she fully understands the restrictions and, if possible, will source acceptable items for your child.

Canteen Menu Oct 2019

Our canteen is governed by the NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy. The program categorises foods into ‘Everyday' and ‘Occasional' foods.  The Australian Dietary Guidelines and the national labelling system that provides Health Star Ratings on the front of packaged food and drinks forms the basis of the minimum food and drink criteria for the revised Healthy School Canteen Strategy.

Lunch Ordering Process

  • Lunch orders can be placed in the canteen between 8:35 and 9:00am.
  • Orders should be written on a paper bag (Canteen sells bags, if necessary) including the students name, class, items being ordered with the price. and the money placed inside the bag.
  • Place the money due inside the bag. Any change will be taped to the outside of the bag.
  • Lunch orders are delivered to the classrooms at 11:00am.

Volunteers Needed

Mrs Best is always in need of helpers to assist in the canteen on a daily basis. The volunteer role starts from 8:35am (or after you drop your child) to around 12:00pm and will include things like:

  •  Making fruit cups, placing items in pie warmers/oven, preparing burgers/wraps/sandwiches/salads and bagging up lunch orders.
  •  Selling sundries and recess items to students during lunch service.
  •  Preparing foods for the following day, as well as restocking shelves and washing up dishes and sanitizing counters

As a small thank you Mrs Best will provide you with an amazing lunch to take home with you. It's our way of saying thank you for helping our canteen thrive, as Mrs Best cannot achieve our canteen's fresh initiatives on her own.

The children love to see their mum, dad and grandparents helping out at the canteen so stop in and see Mrs Best to add yourself to the roster.
