Student opportunities and activities

At Kotara South Public School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.

Our extra-curricular highlights

Public speaking

Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.

Star Struck

Star Struck is an annual performing arts showcase presented by the NSW Department of Education, featuring talented students from public schools across the Hunter and surrounding regions. The vibrant event gives students the opportunity to participate in large-scale performances encompassing dance, drama, and music, celebrating creativity, teamwork, and the diverse talents within NSW public schools.

Trips and excursions

Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.

Creative and performing arts

Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.

Chess club

Chess club is held during lunch time and students have an opportunity to compete in interschool chess competitions.

Tech club

Tech club is held in the library at lunch time.

Drama club

Drama club is held during lunchtime and students will perform at special assemblies throughout the year.

AEC community

Our student AEC come together regularly to yarn, share ideas, and plan initiatives that support and celebrate Aboriginal education and culture. Through collaboration and cultural connection, the committee helps create a welcoming and inclusive school environment.

Didge Group

Through strong community support, our Years 3-6 male AEC students come together to engage in culture, collaboration, and learning while developing their skills on the didgeridoo. This group fosters cultural pride and connection in a supportive environment.
